FLEXspotlight: Cheryl B.

Lansing FLEXcitizen Cheryl has completely overhauled her health in just over 8 months. She has lost 50 pounds and got her blood pressure under control We are so proud of Cheryl. Ready her inspiring story below:

Over the past few years I’ve battled with high blood pressure. Even with 2 medications I was still running 160/110 on most days. Earlier this year my doctor told me that if I didn’t get healthy and lose some weight that I would most likely have a stroke. Thinking of young Faith and my son Jordan, that sent me into overdrive on my fitness goals. I had already at that point lost a few pounds because of my appearance, but after that appointment I made it a goal to change my life. I have lost a total of 50 pounds, my blood pressure is good and honestly I feel the strongest and healthiest I have in all of my adult life. I can’t share enough with people how exercise and diet can change your mood, body and overall health. I’m a determined mama to be here for Jordan Bywater and little Faith! Strong feels amazing.

How long have you been coming to FLEX?

I started attending Flex at the end of March 2016.

How did you hear about FLEXcity?

A co-worker is a member and I was struggling with high blood pressure and was placed on 2 medications to try and control my BP, but it was still running high.  My doctor strongly urged me to start exercising and to change my diet, basically to do my part to help control it.  So I shared this with my co-worker and she suggested that I join her at FLEX.  It was truly one of the best decisions of my life.

What keeps you coming back?

 Not only is my blood pressure at a healthy level now, but my energy level is 100% better than it was prior to joining FLEX.   I am a single mother with a demanding career with varying hours- all of this combined caused me to have anxiety, high feelings of stress, moodiness, and an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion.  FLEX has completely changed this- I now have energy that I had in my 20s.  I feel amazing!

If you were to tell someone to try FLEX, why would you say they should?

It will truly change your body, mind and spirit.  I know that sounds cliche, but do it and I promise you if you stick with it and attend 3-5x per week it will change your life.

The atmosphere at FLEXcity is inviting and not intimidating. Often people think they need to be in shape to join at gym but at FLEX all levels are welcome. 

What results have you seen since starting at FLEX? (this can be anything from being faster, stronger, weight loss, muscle gain, etc).

 I feel stronger than I’ve ever felt in my life.  I’ve lost a total of 50 pounds.  I can clearly see in many body parts the muscle definition- especially in my arms and shoulders.  I also have increased in speed on the treadmill and spin bike and I am much stronger.  Again, I feel as strong, if not stronger than I did in my 20s.  FLEX truly ROCKS and in my case has probably saved my life.
